BOSSreaders, a part of Stronger Learning LLC, is a mission driven company created to eliminate the reading gap in the CO front range.

We are a member of the CO chapter of the International Reading Association and the Education Industry Association.

Qualifications of Instructors/ Staff that Provide Services:

BOSSreaders brings a wide range of skills and more than 25 years of combined educational experience to every project we undertake.

Head Academic Coach, David Taavialma, has been working with struggling readers for the past ten years. His licenses are in Special Education, as well as Secondary Literacy. He has helped start up two charter high schools, and designed the literacy training program for both of them. During the past two years, he created the BOSSreaders© reading training method.

Co-founder, Chris Simon, has taught more than 12 years in a wide variety of educational settings. He started his career in education with Teach for America (LA 90). He received his MEd. from he University of Missouri- St. Louis in 2003. Most recently he has served as an instructional leader in start up charter high schools and coach in the Expeditionary Learning educational network.


The cost for BOSSreaders varies depending on level of implementation and the services provided at each partner school. It ranges from 3.5k- 25K depending on the level of partnership determined by school leadership and support needs.

Just as quality instruction and coaching meet students and teachers where they are, our program meets schools where they are along a continuum of schoolwide literacy practices.

BOSSreaders differentiates our services to meet your individual school and district needs in five areas.
We are flexible in the delivery of our services to students and teachers based on their time, availability and scheduling parameters and depending on the schools needs. Teachers view our work as support and not another thing on their plate.

We differentiate based on reading systems and programs already in place at a school. We leverage the best practices already underway and support schools implementing the BOSS practices to accelerate the rate of reading growth and student ownership

We create a customized BOSSreading Gym in each school that takes into account space availability and creates the best environment for reading training.

We align and differentiate our services to schools based on target goals for specific populations and from school improvement plans. ie ELA, gifted .

We differentiate our professional development and teacher coaching based on your teachers’ experience, learning styles, content areas and current reading support needs.

How will we evaluate our services and support to schools and districts and its effectiveness in school/ district/ student achievement?

There are three results that are produced from the BOSS Reading Gym:
Students improve their reading skills.
Students develop an ownership mindset.
Teachers build their capacity as Masterful Reading Coaches

BOSSreaders evaluates its effectiveness using the results from a variety of assessments and surveys. We partner with schools to provide ongoing evaluation of the services delivered. In the BOSS Reading Gym, students track their progress and learn how to take ownership of their reading growth.

We use a combination of school assessment data and research based diagnostics to understand the current landscape of reading and the progress we are making.

These include CSAP, Acuity, MAP ,TOSCF (Test of Silent Contextual Reading Fluency, , TOWRE (Test of Word Reading Efficiency), as well as the specific data from exercises in the gym.

In addition to empirical data, we track anecdotal data with student and teachers surveys, stories of growth and a final presentation of growth by each student. This builds a sense of student ownership and positive teacher attitudes toward literacy school wide.

BOSS Leadership Teams/ BOSSreading Gym Setup and Design We help guide districts and school leadership teams about how to plan, implement, and maintain a BOSSreaders Gym in a school or district.

Professional Development ---We coach school teams how to incorporate the BOSSreaders practices and exercises as a tier 2 intervention in their regular classroom instruction and/or in an extended day setting. Our goal is to help you create students who are independent self motivated reading practitioners.

Reading Diagnostic Test Administration and Support
Using research based diagnostics we create a portrait of your current literacy landscape that can be used for data analysis, goal-setting and targeting our coaching and instruction to the areas where students show the most need.

Train the Trainers / School Head Coach Mentoring -- We build the capacity for 1-2 faculty members to champion the BOSS practices and support implementation throughout the school..

Teacher Coaching -- We help your teachers become expert reading coaches that conduct great reading practices and accelerate students reading performance. We also work with content teams to build reading practices specific to their discipline.

Extended Day, After School and/or Summer Programming
With our partner Reading Plus, BOSSreaders provides all the tools and coaching necessary to run great reading practices outside the school day. Our partner schools train 20-30 students in a small group setting and have seen an average comprehension growth of one year in 12 weeks

BOSS Family Support
We invite family members to a presentation about being a parent reading coach and give them specific strategies to support their child’s literacy development at home.
