Accountability & Improvement

Submit Your Application for Alternative Education Campus Designation

The submission deadline for applications for Alternative Education Campus designation for the 2014-15 school year is Friday, April 4. This year, CDE is streamlining the process for districts by sending pre-populated applications to districts with current AECs on Monday, March 3. Districts seeking to identify new or existing schools with AEC designation for the 2014-15 school year must email an intent to submit an application to accountability@cde.state.co.us by Friday, Feb. 14.

Learn About New Assessments and Proposed Accountability Transition Plan

A large part of Colorado’s educational accountability system (district and school performance frameworks) are based on results from state assessments. Implementing new state assessments will have an impact on district and school accountability.

To ensure validity and fairness of our accountability system, adjustments will need to be made during the assessment transition period. CDE recently released a proposed transition plan which requires legislative approval. Under this proposed plan, the majority of accountability adjustments are made for the 2015 accountability frameworks. Because the results from the new English language arts and mathematics assessments will be delayed for the first year and growth scores may be difficult to interpret, accountability ratings for 2015 will be based on the 2014 framework rating, and for districts, continued compliance with their accreditation contract.

Read a fact sheet about this proposed plan at the link below.

Exceptional Student Services

Submit Your High Cost Application

The high cost applications for “in administrative unit” and “out of district” costs are available. Expenditure data reported on the applications should be audited expenditures for 2012-2013.

A few reminders about the process:
-Funding in a previous year does not guarantee funding in the current year.
-If the administrative unit or BOCES does not complete their CDE financial December Automated Data Exchange (to the Public School Finance Unit) by Saturday, March 1 that administrative unit or BOCES will not be eligible for high cost funding.
-Transportation fuel/maintenance cost will be calculated using federal rates per mile published annually. For the 2012-13 reporting year, the federal mileage rate was 0.50˘ per mile.
-New this year: For students served in an approved facility school any cost reflected over 176 days must be documented as extended school year in the individualized education plan to be eligible for reimbursement for the reported fiscal year. Indirect costs for approved facility schools are not reimbursable.

Download and print the out of district instructions at http://bit.ly/1f7zZEz.

High cost applications are available on the Special Education Fiscal Advisory Committee webpage below. The deadline for submitting the applications is Friday, Feb. 28.
