Submit Your Student October Snapshot by Friday, Nov. 8

Districts must approve their 2013-14 Student October Snapshot through Data Pipeline by Friday, Nov. 8. A majority of districts have submitted the Student and Title I Interchange files necessary for the successful completion of the Pupil Enrollment Count. CDE has reached out to those who have not yet submitted needed files.

CDE will not be able to extend this deadline as the date is governed by 22-54-112(2)(a) C.R.S. which states that ‘on or before November 10 of each year, the secretary of the board of education of each district shall certify to the state board the pupil enrollment. . .’

Please send a detailed message to datapipeline.support@cde.state.co.us if you need assistance. Thank you to the 15 districts that have already approved their submissions. Thank you to all who are working diligently to make the first October Count within Data Pipeline a success.

Register for Webinars to Assist in Completing the Healthy School Champions Score Card

The Healthy School Champions Score Card is available through Jan. 17.

This voluntary program assessment tool and recognition program ($42,500 will be distributed in 2014 to selected champions), offers an outstanding way for Colorado schools to showcase their coordinated school health efforts and accomplishments.

Several webinars are available to assist schools in completing the score card and in following best practices and guidelines in implementing school health efforts. The score card and a complete list of recorded and live webinars are available at http://www.healthyschoolchampions.org/score-card.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, four previous score card winners will provide insight about how they developed best practices in school health. The panelists will share how they attained administrative support, pulled together their school health teams, created their School Health Improvement Plans, gathered and utilized data and garnered community support for their health efforts. The webinar is at 3:30 p.m. and time will be provided for participant Q&A. Register for the Nov. 5 webinar at https://cc.readytalk.com/r/crkjgcls17ca&eom.

Only Two Months Left for Students to Complete Their GED

Test-takers need to finish the GED test by the end of 2013. The current version of the test—the 2002 Series GED Test—will expire at the end of 2013, along with incomplete test scores.

Please encourage students to take or finish their tests by Dec. 31. There are five sections of the test, and each section can be taken individually over time. However, test-takers need to realize that section scores from 2013 or earlier cannot be combined with section scores on the 2014 test. On Dec. 31, all individual section scores will expire. Those who have not passed all sections of the GED by the end of year will have to start over.

For resources on how to communicate about the close-out of the current GED test, visit the link below.

A representative from each alternative education program or campus should complete the needs assessment.

The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and is available at the link below. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Nov. 15.

Participate in a Survey Regarding Early Warning Systems to Identify Students at Risk of Dropping Out

The Office of Dropout Prevention and Engagement is conducting a district survey regarding Early Warning Systems (data systems to identify students most at risk of dropping out) and other strategies being used to reduce the number of dropouts in Colorado’s high schools and middle schools. The Office of Dropout Prevention will use the survey data to plan professional development opportunities, determine best practices, guide future initiatives and build capacity at both the state and district level. We are seeking survey responses from all Colorado school districts – whether you already have an early warning system in place, are currently considering buying or building a system, or do not have plans to buy or build an early warning system.

Completing the survey takes about 30 minutes. The survey contains fewer than 25 questions with check-box and short answer responses about early warning systems and their implementation. This survey closes Friday, Nov. 22.

Participation is voluntary. Responses will be aggregated and the names of individuals, schools and districts will not be used in any resulting reports or analyses. District-specific information will not be shared with any individual or organization outside of the Colorado Department of Education.
