Accountability & Improvement

Register Now for the Upcoming Progress Monitoring Training

Need help focusing on implementing unified improvement plans through a continuous improvement process? Register for CDE’s progress monitoring training in Pueblo (Nov.27) or Loveland (Nov. 29).

Participants will obtain tools, processes and protocols for engaging with local planning teams in monitoring the progress of improvement efforts throughout the school year. Learn how to build a plan which uses data from interim measures to determine if action steps are having the desired effects on student learning. Teams will practice evaluating the degree to which major improvement strategies are being implemented, as well as how to make adjustments as needed. This session will also address ways to engage various stakeholders, including school and district accountability committee members, in progress monitoring.

UIP Winter Submission Cycle Due Jan. 15

Certain schools and districts are required to submit UIPs to CDE for review by Jan. 15. This includes schools and districts with a priority improvement or turnaround plan type, and districts required to complete a student graduation completion plan or are identified for improvement under Title III. Some grant programs may require submission (e.g., TIG, TDIP) as well. Plans are to be submitted through the online Tracker system, which will open for UIP winter submissions on Dec. 14. Additional resources for submissions will be available on the website as the window approaches.

CDE is also offering an optional winter submission window for any district and/or school to submit revised UIPs for posting on SchoolView. Any districts or schools that opt to submit UIPs for posting on SchoolView this winter must submit plans through the online Tracker system. The submission window will be open from Dec. 14 through Jan. 15. Plans submitted during the winter cycle will replace the currently posted plans in February. All school and district plans must be submitted for public posting on SchoolView by Apr. 15.

Important Updates on the Student Growth Support Tools

In an ongoing effort to support Colorado districts in the implementation of Senate Bill 10-191, several new resources are available starting today:

• Today: Assessment Review Tool
This new tool, available at the link below, assists districts in reviewing their assessments including rating them on their alignment to the Colorado Academic Standards, methods of scoring, degree to which the assessments are fair and unbiased, and the assessment’s ability to provide opportunities for learning.

• December 3rd: CDE Resource Bank
The CDE Resource Bank will provide optional high quality assessments aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards for all grades and content areas. The December launch will include assessments from Cohort 1 of the Content Collaboratives project: dance, drama & theatre arts, music, reading, writing & communicating, social studies and visual arts. In January, assessments from Cohort II will be added to the resource bank: comprehensive health, mathematics, physical education, science, world languages and career & technical education. While the bank will continue to be updated with more assessments and instructional supports, this initial launch allows pilot districts to field test assessments for use in teacher evaluations this year.

• December: Draft guidance and examples to support districts in selecting and using multiple measures of student academic growth in educator evaluations.
This draft guidance (http://www.cde.state.co.us/EducatorEffectiveness/SB-StudentGrowth.asp) will be adapted based on field feedback and pilot tests; updated versions will be posted on the Educator Effectiveness web page and announced in the Educator Effectiveness e-newsletter.

To stay informed of future developments and availability of new resources, subscribe to the CDE Educator Effectiveness e-newsletter at http://bit.ly/SexF5i.

Support & Intervention

You Have Until Dec. 14 to Take the Credit Recovery Survey

CDE is conducting a survey of public high schools regarding the use of credit recovery programs. Data collected will help identify the types of credit recovery programs currently in place, understand the perceived benefits and shortcomings of those programs, and determine what technical assistance and supports are needed to develop more effective credit recovery programs.

High school district- and school-based staff that make decisions about credit recovery programs, whether they have a program in place or not, are encouraged to participate.

Participation in this 35 minute survey is voluntary, but your responses are valuable.
