Accountability & Improvement

Check Out the 2012 Growth Summary Reports

The 2012 growth summary reports are available on SchoolView and can be downloaded as a PDF for each school or as a single PDF for all the schools within a district. The data has also been added to the SchoolView data center, with all the standard disaggregations. The SchoolView Data Lab offers additional flexibility for selecting variables and including more years of data. The data center and data lab can be launched from the same web page.

Prepare for the UIP Winter Submission Cycle

Schools and districts with a priority improvement or turnaround plan type, and districts required to complete a student graduation completion plan or are identified for improvement under Title III must submit UIPs to CDE for review by Jan. 15. Some grant programs may require submission (e.g., TIG, TDIP) as well. Plans are to be submitted through the online Tracker system, which will open for UIP winter submissions on Dec. 14. Additional resources for submissions will be available on the website as the window approaches.

CDE is also offering an optional winter submission window for districts and/or schools to submit revised UIPs for posting on SchoolView. Districts or schools that opt to submit UIPs for posting on SchoolView this winter must do so through the online Tracker system Dec. 14 - Jan. 15. Plans submitted during the winter cycle will replace the currently posted plans in February. All school and district plans must be submitted for public posting on SchoolView by Apr. 15.

Get Prepared for the 2013 TELL Survey

The third iteration of the biennial Teaching, Empowerment, Leading and Learning (TELL) survey will run Feb. 6 – Mar. 6. The intent of the survey is to provide information that guides school and district improvement planning efforts and informs broader policy discussions for supporting teacher recruitment and retention, encouraging effective school leadership, and strengthening instructional efforts. The survey data can also be used as an artifact in evaluations for principals and assistant principals to demonstrate that staff data is collected and used for school improvement efforts.

In preparation, CDE sent out "headcount numbers" (based upon data from the 2011 HR collection) to be verified by district superintendents and HR contacts earlier this week. This will enable the survey administrator, the New Teacher Center, to determine the number of codes to send to each school for staff to access the survey. Districts have until Dec. 14 to confirm the numbers. Schools and districts must have at least 50 percent participation to view their own data. Inaccurate counts could interfere with schools getting their TELL survey data back. Thank you for your help in this important preparation step.

The collection is conducted by the Office for Civil Rights. Since 1968 they have collected data on key education and civil rights issues in our nation's public schools, proving to be a valuable source of information about access to educational opportunities in public schools.

Help with the CDE Website Redesign, Take a Brief Survey

This fall, the Colorado Department of Education began a 9-month process to redesign the CDE website. The goal of the redesign is to develop a more robust and comprehensive site that is useful, informative and engaging. The new site will provide information in a manageable, organized and timely manner. To that end, we’re asking our website users to complete a brief 6-question survey that will inform the design of the new site. The survey will remain open until Friday, Dec. 5.

Please spread the word; your participation is crucial as we design a site that meets your needs. Results of the survey will be shared in late December and a link to that information will be provided in an upcoming issue of the Scoop.
