Accountability & Improvement

TELL Survey Window Extended Through Monday, March 11

Due to requests from several districts for extra time to take the survey, the TELL Colorado survey window has been extended through Monday, March 11. State momentum is good, but it would be great to have a majority of educators participate. Thank you to the approximately 29,000 educators that have already completed the survey!

Once the survey window closes, the survey administrator (New Teacher Center) will clean the data and prepare the data displays. By mid-April, districts that surpass the 50 percent participation rate (or have schools that reached the threshold) will be given access to the data for two weeks before it is released to the public. CDE pushed for early access to the data this year so that it may help inform improvement planning efforts going into the next school year.

Use Drop-in Articles to Communicate With Your Staff

The Communications Division creates tools to increase district-level communications and save leadership time. The monthly “drop-in” articles are pre-written electronic updates on the changes to educator evaluations, new assessments, and the transition to the Colorado Academic Standards. The articles are already written saving districts time and ensuring communications are recent, accurate and relevant. The articles can be downloaded from the communications toolkit website listed below, copied, customized and then used in any communication. Two versions of the drop-in articles are released each month – one that is intended for a principal/teacher audience and one written for a community/parent audience. Superintendents, district/BOCES level personnel, and principals are encouraged to use the articles in their communications with school staff and communities!

Increasing Opportunities for Native American Students

As educators, administrators, and policy makers, we have the responsibility to expand the horizons of all our students. Several organizations, including CDE, have come together for two important events to do just that. The Office of Lt. Governor Joseph A. Garcia, Region VIII Equity Assistance Center at Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs are partners in this effort.

"Increasing Opportunities for Native American Students" is a two-day, no cost conference that will be held on the Metropolitan State University of Denver Auraria Campus May 3-4. Educators and parents are welcome to come on Friday, May 3. The focus is on the obligations all educators have to American Indian students as well as broader equity issues. The second day is student centered and directed to assisting students to become advocates for their own education. A second conference will be held at Ft. Lewis College, Durango, on August 17, similar to the Denver offering.
