Attend the Technical Advisory Panel for Longitudinal Growth Meeting April 17

The public meeting is Thursday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Warren Tech (Founders Room), 13300 West 2nd Place, in Lakewood. If you are unable to attend in person the call in number is 1-877-820-7831. The agenda includes:

-Welcome, approval of minutes
-Postsecondary and workforce readiness 2.0 discussion
-ACCESS adequate growth (work plan)
-School performance framework/district performance framework 2.0 analysis priorities
-Growth indicator work session
-2014 school performance framework/district performance framework specification decisions
-Public comment

The panel consists of state and national experts on longitudinal measurement of academic growth for accountability purposes, convened by the commissioner of education to provide recommendations to the state board of education.

Educator Effectiveness & Licensing


Prepare for End of Year Conferences

To provide timely assistance on the new educator evaluation process, the Educator Effectiveness team is hosting monthly webinars on topics directly linked to the current phase of the evaluation process. This month's webinar is on Tuesday, April 22 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. and will focus on preparing final ratings with an emphasis on completing the 50 percent measures of the student learning piece of the evaluation. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own processes and connect with others.

Check Out Educator Licensing’s Expanded Call Center Hours

Beginning Monday, April 21, CDE will offer longer call center hours in the Educator Licensing Office. The new call center hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Walk-in hours remain the same and are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last walk-in appointment taken at 4:30 p.m.

This meeting about social emotional interventions with students who are English language learners is Thursday, April 24 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Daniels Fund Building, 101 Monroe St., in Denver.

Attend the Transition Leadership Institute June 11-13

Register for the 8th annual Transition Leadership Institute scheduled for Wednesday, June 11 - Friday, June 13 at The Village at Breckenridge, 535 S. Park Ave., in Breckenridge.

Administrative unit/state operated program teams are limited to four members. Register identified transition teams from each administrative unit/state operated program who will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve transition planning and services for youth with disabilities throughout the next school year. Administrative units with a school to work alliance program are encouraged to include the SWAP coordinator as a team member.

Submit an Application for a State Advisory Council for Parent Involvement in Education Vacancy

The State Advisory Council for Parent Involvement in Education has two open positions for parents who serve on a school or district accountability committee.

SACPIE is a legislated council that reviews best practices and recommends to policy makers and educators strategies to increase parent involvement, thus helping to raise the level of student achievement throughout the state. The council meets four times a year and conducts committee work as needed. SACPIE members receive reimbursement for travel and other SACPIE-related expenses.

Submit Your Diagnostic Review Grant Request for Proposal by May 15

The new diagnostic review request for proposal is available. This grant is made available to Title I Schools with Priority Improvement or Turnaround Plan types in order to provide resources and support a focused approach to improvement through a diagnostic review and/or improvement planning support.

All Title I Schools with Priority Improvement or Turnaround Plan types are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to: Title I Focus Schools not awarded FY14 1003a funds; Title I Schools with Turnaround plan types; and Title I schools with Priority Improvement plan types. Note: A diagnostic review with improvement planning support within the last two years is a prerequisite for applying for a school improvement support implementation grant in 2014-2015.

Approximately $1.2 million is available for distribution to schools. Schools may apply for up to $50,000 for a diagnostic review and improvement planning support, or up to $30,000 for improvement planning only. Proposals are due on Thursday, May 15. Read the Breakfast After the Bell Nutrition Program Implementation Guide

The Office of School Nutrition has developed an implementation guide to assist districts with Breakfast After the Bell Nutrition Program implementation.

The purpose of the Breakfast After the Bell Nutrition Program is to offer breakfast at no cost to each student enrolled in a public school that has 70 percent or more students who are eligible for free or reduced price lunch under the National School Lunch Program.

Attend the 2014 School Nurse Orientation

School nurse orientation is a four-day conference that provides a comprehensive introduction to school nursing in Colorado. The conference will be held July 28-31 at the Hyatt Place in Denver.

There is no cost for the program this year. Please register by July 10 as space is limited and priority will be given for new or fairly new registered school nurses.

Learn About Qualified School Nurse Qualifications

School nurses must hold a CDE license as a special services provider with a school nurse endorsement. The requirement is a) a baccalaureate degree in nursing and a current DORA license as a registered nurse; or b) baccalaureate degree in a related field, a current DORA license as a registered nurse with three years school nursing experience and national school nurse certification. These requirements constitute minimal preparation needed to practice at the entry level of school nursing.
