Use April Drop-in Articles to Communicate With Your Staff/Community

The Communications Division creates tools to support district leadership as they communicate about education topics such as changes to educator evaluations, new assessments and the transition to the Colorado Academic Standards. Taking advantage of drop-in articles is like superintendents having their own PR agency with a professional ghost writer. The updates on key initiatives are pre-written thus saving you time and ensuring you’re communicating the most recent, accurate and relevant information. Two drop-in articles are available - one for a principal/teacher audience and one for a community/parent article. This month, the community/parent drop-in article focuses on the Colorado Academic Standards and the Common Core State Standards.

Standards & Assessments

Submit Your Early Literacy Assessment Tool Project Application

The 2012 School Finance Act required CDE to select a contractor to supply an early literacy assessment tool that teachers may use to obtain real-time assessments of the reading skill levels of students in kindergarten through third grade. The intent was to support state purchase of software that provides individualized assessments with immediate results, stores and analyzes those results, and recommends activities based on those results. Through a competitive bid process, the contract was awarded to Wireless Generation for its DIBELS Next system and Burst diagnostic reading assessments in January.

Participating local education providers will receive the online assessment of DIBELS Next, an approved interim measure, and the Burst diagnostic reading assessment, an approved diagnostic measure, including any assessment kits that are needed at the school and the software to use the assessment. The tool will store and analyze the results and recommend school and home activities based on those results.

Hardware is not included. For a list of devices that support the software, go to: http://www.wirelessgeneration.com/devices.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until May 10. The webinar recording has been posted on the program website below.
