Accountability & Improvement

View the Updated Alternative Education Campus Selection of Accountability Measures Form

An updated selection of accountability measures form for alternative education campuses to use towards their 2013-14 school year AEC school performance framework is available.

By July 1, all alternative education campuses must submit a selection of accountability measures form, with their district or authorizer's approval, indicating any optional supplemental accountability measures, metrics and cut-points they are requesting to be used in their AEC school performance framework report.

CDE implemented a policy change for the 2013-14 school year which requires districts to submit supplemental measures for their AECs in each indicator area if statewide assessments are not available and sufficient data is available (i.e. the student count is greater than 16 students over 3 years of data collection). More detailed information about the policy change can be found at the link below.

Early Learning & School Readiness

Become a Reviewer for School Readiness Assessments

The department is seeking additional qualified early childhood educators to participate in the school readiness assessment review process. Reviewers will assist the department in identifying appropriate school readiness assessments for implementation of the school readiness initiative as outlined in CAP4K.

CDE anticipates making recommendations to the state board on school readiness assessments at the September board meeting with a vote anticipated at the October meeting. Following the adoption of approved school readiness assessments, districts will have until August, 2016 to fully implement the approved assessments and provisions outlined in CAP4K.

Read More About Additional Assessments for the School Readiness Assessment Menu

CDE will initiate a request for information to solicit additional assessments for review for the school readiness assessment menu on Friday, May 16.

This summer the school readiness assessment subcommittee will meet to review additional school readiness assessments. Recommendations from the subcommittee will be brought to the state board for discussion in September with a vote anticipated in October.

In December 2012, the State Board of Education voted to offer districts a menu of school readiness assessments and approved Teaching Strategies GOLD as the first tool for the menu. Over the past year, CDE has been guiding districts to phase-in implementation of the school readiness provisions of CAP4K with full implementation to take place in the 2015 – 16 school year. This has allowed districts who wish to use Teaching Strategies GOLD to move forward with implementation while providing time for additional assessments to be added to the menu of options.

Educator Effectiveness & Licensing

Check Your Teacher and Principal Excel Rubrics before Finalizing Educator Evaluations

If your school district/BOCES is using Excel rubrics for educator evaluations, it’s important to make sure that the rubrics are up-to-date before finalizing educator evaluation ratings. During this first year of implementation, the Educator Effectiveness team identified some errors in certain versions of the Excel files. In order to make sure your files are accurate, check the version dates on the files by clicking the instructions tab and reading the version date at the top left. For the teacher rubrics, the version date should be on or after 11-14-13 and for the principal rubrics the date should be on or after 4-14-14.

You can also run an automated program, Finalizer (for both teacher and principal files), that will check all of your Excel evaluation files and update any files that are old and need to be modified. For instructions on how to use and run this program, contact Toby King. Districts are encouraged to run this program before finalizing their evaluation systems for the 2013-14 school year.
