View Updated Alternative Education Campus Submission Forms

Districts interested in applying on behalf of their schools for Alternative Education Campus designation for the 2013-14 school year may now get an updated application and renewal for designation as an alternative education campus. By July 1, all schools seeking designation or renewal as an AEC will need to submit both forms, with their district or authorizer’s approval, verifying that the school meets or continues to meet eligibility criteria and indicating any optional supplemental accountability measures, metrics, and cut-points they are requesting to be used in their AEC School Performance Framework report.

Educator Effectiveness & Licensing

View the Update on Rules for the Evaluation of Specialized Service Professionals

The State Council for Educator Effectiveness is finalizing its recommendations concerning the development and implementation of a performance evaluation system for licensed education professionals other than teachers and administrators. These “specialized service professionals” include personnel who provide support to teachers and students in areas that involve student physical, emotional, and social health and well-being. The SCEE’s report is a companion to the 2011 recommendations on the development and implementation of an evaluation system for teachers and principals.

The report will be presented by SCEE representatives to the State Board of Education at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, May 15. Using the recommendations and feedback provided by the state board, CDE will draft rules for the state board’s consideration. Prior to beginning the formal rulemaking process, CDE will hold a meeting to gather public input on the draft rules on Tuesday, May 28 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the state board Room at 201 E. Colfax Ave. Members of the public will also have further opportunities to provide input on the rules through the formal rulemaking process, including a public hearing before the state board. The rulemaking process is expected to take place from June to early fall.

Standards & Assessments

Submit Your Early Literacy Assessment Tool Project by Friday, May 10

The 2012 School Finance Act required CDE to select a contractor to supply an early literacy assessment tool that teachers may use to obtain real-time assessments of the reading skill levels of students in kindergarten through third grade. The intent is to support state purchase of software that provides individualized assessments with immediate results, stores and analyzes those results, and recommends activities based on those results. Through a competitive bid process, the contract was awarded to Wireless Generation for its DIBELS Next system and Burst diagnostic reading assessment.

Participating local education providers will receive the online assessment of DIBELS Next, an approved interim measure, and the Burst diagnostic reading assessment, an approved diagnostic measure, including any assessment kits that are needed at the school and the software to use the assessment. The tool will store and analyze the results and recommend school and home activities based on those results.

Hardware is not included. For a list of devices that support the software, go to: http://www.wirelessgeneration.com/devices.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until May 10.
