Accountability & Improvement

2014-15 UIP Templates Now Available

The 2014-15 district and school level Unified Improvement Planning templates and addenda forms are finalized and are available at http://bit.ly/1idz5wK. As in the past, the templates are in MS Word. A document that summarizes the changes is available at http://bit.ly/1q9HlOL. Based on feedback from the field, the changes were kept to a minimum. Over the next couple of weeks, webinars will be offered to walk through the changes.

As a reminder, all districts and schools, including new schools, are expected to use the current CDE templates to ensure that state, federal and program accountability requirements are met. The pre-populated reports will be distributed to districts in early September (two weeks after the release of the preliminary performance frameworks).

To support schools and districts in updating plans, a fall training schedule and resources for Improvement Planning (e.g., UIP handbook and UIP quality criteria) are being finalized and will be made available soon.

Colorado H.B. 14-1288 was signed on May 21 by Gov. Hickenlooper and goes into effect on July 1. Per H.B. 14-1288, "each school shall make the immunization and exemption rates of their enrolled student population publicly available, upon request." The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is diligently making progress towards implementation of several other requirements that will also affect schools. Standards & Assessments

Learn About Next Steps in the Development of Colorado’s New Tests

This spring, Colorado administered the new science and social studies tests for the first time. An important next step in the development process of these tests is to finalize what proficiency means and set new cutscores for each of the tests, the Colorado Measures of Academic Success and Colorado Alternate Assessment.

In July, CDE will engage 128 educators in this process. Educators will review performance level descriptors (what proficiency means), assessment items, student responses and data. Participants will make recommendations to the state board of education in August.
