National Experts Share Insights at Autism Spectrum Disorder Literacy Institute

The five-day institute focuses on a balanced approach to literacy including instruction in phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing. Each aspect of literacy will be linked to the unique cognitive, social and communication issues inherent in autism spectrum disorder. Nationally recognized experts on literacy and autism spectrum disorder, Dr. Christi Carnahan and Dr. Pam Williamson, are conducting the training.

The session is free and all Level 1 participants must commit to attend all five days. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.

The training is Wednesday, Sept. 3 and Thursday, Sept. 4, and Tuesday - Thursday, Dec. 2, 3 and 4, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

A new two-day, Level 2 training will be offered this year. Using lessons learned from last year's Institute, this year's training will help teachers develop balanced literacy plans. Level 2 training will be held on Friday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Dec. 5.
