Innovation & Choice

Learn About the Online Task Force

Recently passed legislation, H.B. 14-1382 (SH 1382), requires the convening of an online task force to review best practices and policies for authorizing and administering multi-district online schools, provide the state board of education with recommendations regarding quality standards and practices for authorizers, and provide recommendations to the state board of education and General Assembly regarding the regulatory and statutory changes that are necessary to certify authorizers of multi-district online schools. The online task force will begin meeting in August, with the first meeting date to be determined. It is anticipated that the online task force will meet biweekly until January 2015. The process of identifying a facilitator is in progress and is subject to the bidding process that is standard for the state.

Apply for State Grants for Libraries 2014-2015 Funding

The State Grants for Libraries funding cycle for 2014-2015 is open. Christmas in the library, expanded digital resources and more opportunities for our patrons represent some of the benefits libraries mentioned for the State Grants for Libraries funding this year.

The state legislature renewed the $2 million allocation for the State Library to distribute to eligible publicly funded school, public and academic libraries. The funds are for educational materials in libraries that support efforts to improve literacy and learning, including early literacy and other education-related needs identified by the grantee.

This is a non-competitive grant process, with a minimum $3,000 grant awarded to all eligible institutions. Each school district must submit an eligibility form to the State Library by Friday, Sept. 12 to be eligible. Guidelines and eligibility forms are available online.

The forms and process is similar to last year. If you are new to the process, please join us for a webinar on Thursday, July 24 at 11:30 a.m. or Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. to review the guidelines, eligibility requirements and form submission process. The same content is covered in the webinars.
