Register for the August 7 UIP Changes Webinar

The webinar will describe changes with the UIP template and processes for the 2013-14 school year. Specific topics include revisions to school and district performance frameworks and how this affects the UIP template, grants and programs (e.g. gifted education, tiered intervention grant, Colorado graduation pathways), and an overview of the pre-populated report and submission timeline.

Learn More About Growth Data Resources

The 2013 student level TCAP and ACCESS growth data are now available in the Colorado Education Data Analysis & Reporting System for authorized users. Resources, including the flat file layout and Colorado Growth Model FAQs can be accessed at

CDE will host webinars regarding accessing growth data on Thursday, Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 21. The webinars will cover locations of growth data, content of growth summary reports and allow for participants to ask questions. For additional information about these webinars, visit

Respond to the Civil Rights Data Collection

At a recent meeting in Washington, D.C., the National Forum on Education Statistics discussed that local education agencies were not aware that they had the opportunity to react to the upcoming 2013-14 and 2015-16 civil rights data collection and that the timing for comment was not conducive with LEA summer schedules. Districts have until Tuesday, Aug. 20 to comment.

CRDC will now allow CDE to provide data that has already been submitted. The remainder of the data will need to be provided by districts.
Major changes include adding items:
• district civil rights contacts
• educational programs in justice facilities
• time students are suspended
• preschool discipline practices
• corporal punishment
• sexual orientation and religion to types of harassment allegations
• early childhood experiences
• chronic absenteeism
• from NCES School Survey on Crime and Safety
• school support and school security staffing data
• from NCES Schools and Staffing Survey

Refining items related to:
• total personnel expenditures between schools for specific staff
• expulsion
• course taking
• middle school math opportunities
• dual enrollment
• credit recovery
• AP course-taking
• STEM opportunities

Register for the 2013 Transition Leadership Mini-Institutes Beginning Aug. 5

The Transition Leadership Institute is geared toward districts and BOCES leaders. Participants, limited to four per administrative unit, will review and revise transition action plans in structured team planning time and attend breakouts and networking sessions focused on secondary transition indicators.

The institute will be held as a mini-institute in four locations: Thornton (Thursday, Sep. 12), Montrose (Tuesday, Sept. 17), Colorado Springs (Tuesday, Sept. 24), and South Denver (Wednesday, Sept. 25). AU transition teams will participate in system level planning.

Specific information will be sent to directors of special education prior to the registration window with an overview. Transition teams will have the opportunity to design, implement, evaluate and revise the AU’s transition action plan for the 2013-2014 school year. Individual team members must be pre-registered by the designated transition team leader for their registration to be accepted.

Attend an Administrative Review Regional Training

The Office of School Nutrition is beginning a new round of administrative reviews for the 2013-2014 school year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture developed a new process for which these reviews are conducted.

The Office of School Nutrition has identified the school districts across the state that will be scheduled for a review this school year. Regional training starts at the end of August to assist districts in understanding what to expect for the review.

Food service directors and a business official should attend. Only districts scheduled for a review may attend. The office intends to provide additional training in the future to pair with the other review years.

Attend the Library Leadership 3.0 School Librarian Workshop

The Colorado Association of School Libraries is conducting a professional development workshop that will help librarians grow in the areas of digital literacy, leadership and the transformative teaching concepts of the Colorado Academic Standards.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and will be held at Farrell B Howell, 14750 E Albrook Drive, Denver, CO 80239. The fee is $30 for Colorado Association of Libraries members and $40 for non members (lunch and snacks are provided).

CLF seeks a vice president of development to design and execute a comprehensive development strategy for CLF.
